4 Tips for graceful aging


We have heard this phrase often but what does it mean to age gracefully? I believe that ageing gracefully means pulling together all the lessons, principles, experiences, and wisdom of your younger years and living them out more intentionally with grace and ease as you age. When you age gracefully, you age with more certainty about who you are, what you want, and what you are doing.


Here are 4 tips for ageing gracefully.


1.    Make time for self-reflection-

Find time each day to quiet your mind and think thoughts of a better you. Think about the things you want for your life and the things you no longer want to be a part of. Think about the direction of your life, and your next steps. Pray and meditate. Ask for divine intervention and support. This process helps you stay in-tuned with yourself so that you can live with more certainty about what you want and who you are. THAT  is ageing gracefully…


2.    Manage Stress

Stress is the silent enemy to your peace of mind and graceful ageing. Be mindful about stressors and work to keep them at bay. Learn to say no to things that are not urgent. Learn how not to be anxious about things that are not urgent. If your work is stressful, pace yourself and keep a to-do list. A good night’s sleep is an important part of stress management and ageing gracefully. We often carry the day’s events, worries and concerns to bed. Try as much as possible to quiet your mind a few hours before bed so that you can go into a restful night’s sleep.


3.    Stimulate your brain -

Mental health is an important part of ageing gracefully, especially if you desire to be independent long-term. So engage in activities that challenge your mind and require you to learn new information. Some people opt for reading books, playing games such as scrabble that make the brain work actively. I opt for entrepreneurship because there is nothing more mentally demanding than a good hustle. Entrepreneurship forces you to come up with creative ideas. Your mind is always alert. What is your preferred activity?


4.    Travel

See the world. Expand your horizons. Go to new places. Meet new faces. Give yourself permission to experience God’s abundant universe. There is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered. These are the four tips for ageing gracefully. There are other ideas like healthy eating and exercise, but those are things we already know.
